Investment fraud is as old as the world itself. From the day they stopped growing and produce business and began to use money as a medium of exchange, people dishonest have tried to deceive and defraud the trash. Although it is an old problem recently, Bernie Madoff and now (allegedly) Allen Stanford have brought to our attention big.
Since the advantage of an investment professional and a consumer, it is scandalous that both inexperienced and informed investors taken from the crooks and charlatans. Thus, in an effort to fight against these injustices and protect themselves against being a victim of himself, I offer these guidelines to reduce the risk of unwise investments and fraud.
1. Educate yourself. Buy a basic manual of investment without knowing the character and fundamental risk / return compared to traditional values, bonds, money markets, CDs and investments in mutual funds. Yields on two significant figures invariably higher volatility. Annuities and pensions are long term investments. If a good investment "too good to be true, it probably is! Avoid being seduced of "alternative investments" that as a minor piece of a diversified portfolio.
2. Map of your goals when buying or investing. What is the purpose and timing of planned investments and their need for liquidity?
3. Who are you planning to invest? Never do business with someone you've known by phone or online.
